A lunar calendar is a calendar that is based on cycles of the lunar phase. The lunar calendar is coordinated with the position of the moon. The only widely used purely lunar calendar is the Islamic calendar. The Gregorian calendar, used by most of the world, is the 12 month calendar. Another difference is that Sunday is 日 on the Lunar calender but on the Gregorian calender Sunday is the 1st day of the week. Another difference is that the Lunar calender goes by the moon and the Gregorian calender goes by the sun. The Lunar calender has Chinese characters while the Gregorian calender does not.
